Beautiful Fall Colors

What an incredible week we've had. It started Monday night when we decided to take a hike into the mountains for Family Night to see the beautiful fall leaves. We were given a heads-up about a great place with a nice, easy, family hike. It was perfect and beautiful. The trees were the most amazing color of gold. Unfortunately, many of the red and orange leaves had already fallen, but the gold was worth seeing.

One of the highlights of the hike was discovering the talents of the beaver. Shortly after starting along our path, we came across a swift river. It was beautiful among the trees. As we rounded a bend in the path, though, we found the path was completely under water. It was then that we discovered a tree gnawed clear to the center by a beaver. He had successfully diverted the water from the raging river and created quite a dam. The kids had a blast walking across some stepping stones and some fallen wood to the bridge. Ryden, of course, didn't see the sense in using the stones. He just walked right through the water to the log. Oh well.

The dam the beaver built.
